From June 19th to 22nd, 2013, the China Coal Processing and Utilization Association and the Coal Preparation Branch of the China Coal Industry Association organized the "National Coal Preparation Plant Energy Conservation, Consumption Reduction, Potential tapping and Efficiency Improvement Technology Seminar" in Xiangyang City, Hubei Province. At the meeting, Zhao Shuyan, Chairman and Chief Engineer of Guohua Technology Group, gave a keynote speech titled "Research on Energy Conservation and Efficiency Improvement of Heavy Media Coal Preparation Technology" and actively solicited and answered relevant questions from the attending representatives.

The main content of "Research on Energy Conservation and Efficiency Improvement of Heavy Media Coal Preparation Technology" includes: (1) Research on Energy Conservation and Efficiency Improvement of Heavy Media Coal Preparation Technology; (2) Research on energy-saving and efficiency improvement of heavy medium coal selection equipment; (3) Research on centralized control and automation energy-saving and efficiency improvement in heavy medium coal selection production; (4) The implementation effect of energy-saving and efficiency improvement in heavy medium coal selection. The paper comprehensively introduces the research with the core of heavy medium cyclone coal selection technology and equipment, aiming to achieve energy conservation, consumption reduction, efficiency improvement, and cost saving. It forms a complete set of technology from process to equipment, from sorting to coal slurry water treatment, to centralized production control and automatic measurement and control of process parameters in coal preparation plants. The overall technological level of the research project results is internationally leading, with 19 national authorized patents and 8 accepted patents, including 12 invention patents. Based on the technological advantages of project achievements, Guohua Technology has led or participated in the revision of 9 coal industry standards.

In addition, Xu Xuewu, Vice President of Guohua Technology Group, also gave a report titled "Energy saving and Efficiency Improvement in Heavy Media Coal Preparation Design". The main content includes: (1) selecting efficient and energy-saving sorting processes; (2) Select highly simplified process flow; (3) Select large, energy-saving, efficient, and cost-effective equipment; (4) Select an advanced and reliable automatic measurement and control system for coal preparation plants; (5) Scientifically and reasonably determine the quantity and quality of the process flow, optimize the overall layout and arrangement of the plan; (6) Other energy-saving and efficiency enhancing design concepts. The paper is based on the research of the energy-saving and efficiency enhancing heavy medium coal preparation technology developed by Guohua Technology, accumulating 14 years of coal preparation engineering design experience and engineering contracting practices of various scale coal preparation plants. The design concept of energy-saving and efficiency improving heavy medium coal preparation plants is summarized and applied in more than 500 heavy medium coal preparation plants of various scales, with a total design processing capacity of 638 million tons. After all are put into operation, it is equivalent to about 31% of China's total coal preparation in 2012.

The clean coal quantity efficiency of the heavy medium coal preparation plant designed and put into operation based on the above concept reaches over 95%; Compared with the Jamson flotation column process of the main and secondary selection of the two product heavy medium cyclone with pressure feeding for raw coal desliming, the clean coal yield has increased by 6.97 percentage points (Shanxi Xinyu Coal Preparation Plant); Electricity consumption per ton of coal ≤ 6.0kW · h, water consumption per ton of coal ≤ 0.075m3, and water reuse rate ≥ 93%. Fully demonstrate the design concept of energy conservation, consumption reduction, potential tapping, and efficiency improvement.

At this conference, there were 16 papers related to the issue of medium consumption in heavy medium coal preparation plants. The medium consumption of the Matou Coal Preparation Plant of Jizhong Energy Fengfeng Group has decreased to 0.50kg/t since 2012, and further decreased to 0.41kg/t in April 2013. This is the fourth coal preparation plant designed by Guohua Technology that adopts the "three product heavy medium cyclone selection process of raw coal without classification, desliming, and pressure feeding" with a medium consumption of less than 0.50kg/t. It is the lowest medium consumption coal preparation plant in the country and a state-owned enterprise.
